If you’ve been following LISH Creative for some time now, you know that I believe in the power of social media. You may also know that so much of it involves video.
You can find just about anything on Instagram Reels and TikTok, which includes customers that you may never reach otherwise! But instead of thinking that it’s just my brand or similar clients who’ve seen success, I want you to see the power of video content for brands in a variety of industries!
Let’s check out three businesses that went viral thanks to their clever and creative video content: Mermaid Straw, Voice teacher Camille van NieKerk, and founder of Brillies Sunglasses, Kaila Uli.
Mermaid Straw
Have you hopped on the reusable straw bandwagon yet? In 2018, Mermaid Straw founders Lisa and Adam Harrington started a business selling sustainable, stylish metal straws. They come in in every shape and size you can imagine, and you can choose from a palette of unique colors such as rose gold, ocean blue and siren.

In addition to being totally adorable, Mermaid Straw products are shipped in packaging that’s recyclable and compostable. The owners also donate some of their profits and organize beach cleanups.
Thanks to their mesmerizing video content, Mermaid Straw has gained 1.2 million TikTok followers since it opened.
“TikTok has been a game changer for our small business, allowing our reach to expand to corners of the world that we never thought possible,” Lisa Harrington said. “We’ve been able to connect with like-minded people interested in the wellbeing of our planet across the entire globe!”

Mermaid Straw’s videos are short and simple, but still connect with customers in a powerful way.
“The opportunity that TikTok has provided has been immensely beneficial as we now have a direct line to our customers, providing feedback in real time, to provide the best service possible,” Harrington said.
Camille van NieKerk
Next is Camille van NieKerk, a performer and voice teacher from San Diego California. Camille is INSANELY talented, seriously talented, has won awards for her performances, and even went on tour in South Africa!
Van NieKerk uses video content to promote her business and get people excited about voice lessons. How could you resist singing along to her beautiful voice?
“TikTok has helped me reach my ideal audience: singers who are excited to learn, want to improve their voice, and have fun doing it,” NieKerk said. “Along with gaining 143k followers and nearly 2 million likes over the last 6 months, I’ve also seen my email list grow and gained new students for private lessons directly from TikTok.”
NieKerk’s TikTok account is full of videos like this one, where viewers can learn quick tips and interact with her in the process.

In addition to publicity, NieKerk’s TikTok fame helps her teaching. “My favorite benefit: from the very first lesson, these students already know and like my teaching style!” she said.
Brillies Sunglasses
Brillies sells vintage sunglasses that were made in the 90s and 2000s but never sold. The result? Fashion and sustainability all rolled into one cool, timeless package. They offer all the essential styles like cat eye, aviator, round lens and more!

Founder Kaila Uli uses Instagram and TikTok to chronicle the process of searching through old warehouses and managing inventory — an endeavor that can be quite exciting in the world of vintage as she never knows exactly what she’ll find.
Through social media, Uli has been able to reach a following of vintage lovers who have been there all along. Brillies Sunglasses was founded in 2017 and already has 154.4k followers on TikTok with a page full of engaging videos.
