The Best Value Camera Lens for Beginner Photographers
Are you eyeing a brand new camera?
Maybe you’ve noticed that, as your photography skills improve, you’re not as excited to use the original camera gear you invested in. Or that you wanna try new compositions and shots, but you feel like your camera is holding you back. Plus, as much as we hate to admit it, our camera gear doesn’t last forever!
It may be time to upgrade, but guess what? Sometimes you don’t need to invest in an entirely new camera. You might just need a new lens.
My most recommended camera lens
The best camera lens I can recommend for beginner photographers? The Canon EF EOS 50mm f/1.8 STM. Kind of a mouthful, right? That’s why it’s also known as the “Nifty Fifty!” Here’s why I love this lens so much.
Function
This is one of my favorite lenses for lifestyle and portrait photography! If you’re looking to create crisp, clear shots of your subject with a dreamy, blurred background, this is the lens for you.
It makes a great multi-purpose lens in general, which is why it made My Five Favorite Photography Lenses list. Plus, it’s a pretty compact lens, so it’s easy to tote around when you’re shooting in different locations.
Compatibility
When you buy a new lens, you want one that works with most, if not all, of your existing camera gear. The Canon 50mm f/1.8 works with every Canon EOS camera out there, including the Canon EOS Rebel T7, my recommended camera for beginners.
Price
The Nifty Fifty is only $125! Of course, what you consider inexpensive or pricey depends on your budget and how much you’re invested in photography. But keep in mind that camera lenses can range from $100 on the lower end to thousands of dollars on the higher end.
You also have options for buying the lens. Canon sells a refurbished 50 mm lens for $99, and you can always find a used lens online for even less.
