This month I finally made it to the Instagram mecca that is the Wynwood Arts District in Miami, Florida! I’ve just started to share some of the pictures on Instagram, and you may have seen the day-of snapchats, but here I’m sharing more insights and imagery from this wildly colorful adventure.
Preparation:
Before the trip, I scoured Instagram and the web for images of the different walls. I wanted to try my best to pack an outfit and relevant props for as many walls as possible! I consulted guides by Studio DIY, Sugar & Cloth, and also the Instagrams of @rclayton @matt_crump, @jenniferlake, @splendid_rags @carriec @dreamgreendiy and @sarahhearts to get a sense of what we would find on arrival.
Getting there:
We were staying in Hollywood, Florida, so it was just a quick trip down I-95 to the Arts District. We left early, around 9am, and that ended up being a great decision! The gated Wynwood Walls don’t officially open until 10:30am, but we were able to accesss the dozens of walls on the surrounding blocks nearly crowd-free at this time!
Parking:
I had no idea what to expect, and was also skeptical because the backseat was going to be my fitting room! Luckily, there are meters everywhere and plenty of spaces. We also discovered that each street has the same meter code, so after you download the app and put in your info, you can move the car (aka the dressing room) from wall to wall, without having to switch parking meters!
The outfits:
Since I’m not a fashion blogger, most of the outfits that I packed and ended up wearing were clothes that I had in my closet! But there were A LOT that I didn’t wear. It was upwards of 90 degrees and 70% humidity in Miami, so the glamour shots quickly melted away with my rosy, glowy cheeks! I was definitely thankful for my sunglasses, giant sun hat, and cute jumping pics!
The props:
Think easy to transport, but still loads of fun! I brought my Ban.do agenda and 3 different handbags, and I made a balloon garland at the hotel and bought a pineapple on the way there! Just like outfits though, the heat got the best of us, and I didn’t photograph as many setups as I had envisioned. I also totally forgot to capture video content!
