#lishygoeswest – PART 2 – Guide to Palm Springs

August 29, 2015

Making it out west from Pittsburgh was quite the accomplishment (read about the start of the roadtrip here)! Our first California stop was Palm Springs and I was so stoked! After seeing dozens of sun-kissed Instagramers in the area, I added it to the list of must-sees and booked a room at The Saguaro ASAP.

TO STAY

The Saguaro, Palm Springs
The Saguaro fulfilled all of my colored dreams! I imagined it to be more of a resort-like setting, but being so close to a main road was super convenient. I worked to photograph every angle of this colorful place! That pool…those walls…the doors! We stayed during the week, so no crazy parties, but the pool was still open late, and it was nice to lounge around with some peace and quiet. We also loved the ping pong table in the lobby, the interesting art books in the room, and the sweet-smelling bath products. Oh, and the front desk staff was the nicest!

TO SEE

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway
Although we didn’t have much time for antique or luxury shopping, we did have time to catch the Aerial Tramway! We thought about making the trip up, but we weren’t completely sold on it until we heard that temperatures are 30 degrees cooler at the top. We were looking for any way to beat the desert heat! The tram offers incredible views in itself, but we were more interested in the hiking trails at the top. There are three different trails, all varying in length, but all offering sweeping views of the Coachella Valley. Wear your outdoor gear, because they are amazing!

Yes we brought a selfie-stick. No shame. Yes we brought a selfie-stick. No shame.

The Ace Hotel & Swim Club
This hip desert hot spot was made for the cool kids. We didn’t stay on the property, but loved walking the grounds to check out the metal letters, painted mural, and the infamous “everything will be okay” marquee sign.

That Pink Door
Of course we drove through the residential streets of Palm Springs to find this beautiful pink statement door!

TO EAT

Lulu’s
We loved lunching at this art deco, desert oasis. So many gluten-free options for gals like me!

Great Shakes
This sweet little shake shop was the bomb! In addition to serving up mini donuts with every blended beverage, they also offer Dole Whip and dairy free ice cream for allergy-ridden peeps like me!

King’s Highway
Hey hipsters – King’s Highway is for you! Graham and I felt slightly out of place at this super trendy diner at the Ace Hotel & Swim Club, but I have to admit that their breakfast was great! Avocado toast FTW. And how about that natural light?!
